Tara Schroeder, community relations director for Tampa Theatre, is flush with excitement over its restroom making a national top 10 list.
"This is exciting because we have known for a long time that our restrooms are unique," said Schroeder, who entered the theater in the Cintas Corp. competition after The Tampa Tribune published an article about it this year.
The Tampa Theatre was created by John Eberson, one of the most prolific and internationally renowned movie palace designers of his time. The restrooms feature Vitrolite glass on the walls and intricate tile designs. The men's room has sconces in the shape of tobacco pipes. The ladies' restroom has a child-size stall that Schroeder says gives the room a certain charm.
The Nova 535 art gallery restrooms in St. Petersburg, also in the top 10, are at the other end of the spectrum. The 10 ultramodern restroom suites feature "full-length solid birch stall doors and Italian mocha travertine with black granite diamond inserts in a completely touch-less environment."
