Ride with former pro cyclist Bob Roll in Riverview on Thursday

RIVERVIEW - Cyclists in the Tampa Bay area have a chance to hit the road with former Tour De France racer Bob Roll on Thursday morning.

Anyone able to maintain an 18-mph pace is welcome to join the popular cycling commentator as he departs from Just Ride Bicycles, 13431 Boyette Road, at 10 a.m.

Roll, a Tour de France commentator for Versus (previously the Outdoor Life Network) since 2000, was part of the nation's first major professional cycling team, Team 7-11, in the mid-1980s. His Web site reflects his "gonzo" style of racing and colorful racing history. His 10 commandments of cycling includes the advice: "Thou shalt crash and look like a fool sooner or later."

Roll's competitive career includes: four Tour de France, three Giro d'Italia, three Tour de Swiss, seven Paris-Roubaix and five Coors Classic races. He is also a member of the U.S. Cycling Hall of Fame.

Cyclists who maintain a slower pace can visit with Roll at the store from 6 to 9 p.m. He will hold a question-and-answer session as part of the store's grand opening.
