Wesley Chapel rising junior Hunter Joyer, a fullback who has rushed for more than 1,700 yards in two seasons at Wesley Chapel, has transferred to Tampa Catholic, his father, Jack Joyer confirmed Wednesday.
Joyer's older brother, Kamran, is headed to the University of South Florida as a scholarship offensive lineman. Last season, the 6-foot, 240-pound Hunter Joyer rushed for 1.030 yards and 10 touchdowns last season for the Wildcats and as a freshman, he gained 669 yards and scored 15 TDs. Hunter is also an accomplished weight lifter, setting a world record at age 13 for bench press of 375 pounds. His personal best in the bench is 485 pounds and he has cleaned 300. Joyer also owns exceptional speed, clocking an electronic 40-yard dash time of 4.67 seconds.
"Going on reputation only because he hasn't joined us yet, he's clearly a big, strong that will give us the true fullback we haven't had," said Tampa Catholic coach Bob Henriquez. "If he can perform like he has in the past, he'll add a lot to an already versatile offense."
At a recent Nike combine in Orlando, Hunter Joyer ranked fourth overall for combined score in the 40-yard dash, vertical jump, bench press, shuttle and ball drills.
