TAMPA - Showers and storms moving from the Gulf of Mexico should continue to trail across West Central Florida through today and extend through Friday.
An area of low pressure over the Gulf is drifting east and dragging rain and storms with it.
The showers started moving ashore overnight in places and will continue moving to the northeast.
Most of the rain coming over land will be just showers through the morning. Once the sun starts heating things later in the day, some thunderstorms will begin forming.
A few of those thunderstorms could mushroom into severe storms with hail and high winds, the National Weather Service says.
Though the rain will drop off after dark, forecasters still say a 40 percent chance will linger overnight. Rain chances will creep back up to 60 percent after dawn on Friday.
There's also a good chance the same conditions will hang around for Saturday, with rain chances falling only slightly on Sunday.
