One person was burned and the family dog died in a house fire early this morning in St. Petersburg, authorities said.
Firefighters responded to the 1:50 a.m. call at 2830 Seventh St. S. and found the one-story, two-bedroom wood-frame house spewing smoke and flames.
According to firefighters with St. Petersburg Fire & Rescue, the fire was brought under control within minutes, but one person was treated for burns received as he ran from the home. The patient was taken to Bayfront Medical Center. His condition was unavailable this morning.
The home did not have a working smoke alarm, firefighters said. The occupants, whose names were not immediately available, were awakened by the smoke and heat, firefighters said.
Arson investigators were sifting through the debris this morning trying to determine the cause of the fire, although they suspected an electrical issue that started in a bedroom. The fire caused about $50,000 damage to the home, which is valued at about $138,500, firefighters said.
The American Red Cross is helping to find lodging for the two adults and three children who lived in the house.
