TALLAHASSEE - Gov. Charlie Crist on Friday announced the appointment of Robert James Morris Jr. of Clearwater to the 2nd District Court of Appeal.
Morris replaces Judge Thomas Lee Stringer, who retired this year after being accused of misconduct.
Morris, 55, has served as chief judge of the 6th Judicial Circuit in St. Petersburg since 1997. He began his career in the public sector as an assistant state attorney in the 6th Judicial Circuit from 1980 to 1982. In 1982, he joined the law firm Foley & Larder and practiced there until 1992. He continued to practice as a sole practitioner until 1997. He earned a bachelor's from the University of Florida and a law degree from DePaul University.
Stringer resigned in February after the Judicial Qualifications Commission accused him of helping a stripper hide money from creditors. He quit three days before a deposition was to be held before the state panel.
