SAFETY HARBOR - The 53-year-old man found at Philippe Park this morning with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head has died, the Pinellas Sheriff's Office said.
Howard S. Rosenthal, of 527 Harbor Groves Circle, Safety Harbor, was discovered in a park shelter just before 8 a.m., about a mile from his home, the sheriff's office said.
Rosenthal, who was once the property manager at Baywalk, St. Petersburg's downtown entertainment and retail complex, was arrested in January on a count of grand theft in connection with his alleged activities at a prior place of employments.
Specifically, while employed as a manager with Colliers Arnold Real Estate, a Clearwater real estate and property management company, he stole about $170,000 of the company's funds for his use, the sheriff's office has said.
Investigators said Rosenthal double-billed invoices, diverting money to his accounts. He resigned from Colliers Arnold in August and formed his own company.
Rosenthal was released from jail after posting $50,000 bail.
