TAMPA - Towson assistant Eric Skeeters has been hired to fill one of the assistant openings on the University of South Florida men's basketball staff.
"Eric and I hit it off well," USF coach Stan Heath said in a statement. "He fit the profile I was looking for in recruiting, skill development and player relations. Eric's a great fit for USF basketball and I expect him to make an immediate impact on our program."
Skeeters will arrive in Tampa Friday.
"It is a phenomenal opportunity to coach in the Big East and with Stan Heath, who has been a good friend and someone I have followed closely since his days at Michigan State," Skeeters said. "Big East basketball is the best in America and I am ready to work side-by-side with Coach Heath and the staff to make great things happen at USF and within the Big East."
A Baltimore native, Skeeters was the first hire of Towson coach Pat Kennedy when he arrived prior to the 2004-05 season.
"Eric brings a wealth of quality experience to our program," Kennedy said when Skeeters came to Towson. "We must build bridges with the Baltimore basketball community and I know that Skeets can do an outstanding job in this area. He's a quality coach and a quality person."
Skeeters was an assistant at Towson since 2004. Before that Skeeters was an assistant at Virginia Tech (2003-04), Youngstown State (1999-2003), Coppin State (1992-96) and St. Frances Academy.
Skeeters was one of seven individuals that interviewed with Heath for the two openings. The other position is expected to be between former Kentucky assistant Jeremy Cox, UCF assistant Steve Demeo and USF director of basketball operations Tommy Tonelli.
