The fundamental problem with Gov. Charlie Crist relying on developers to revitalize the local economy is that it is flawed:
1. There was excessive growth without this new growth management law.
2. Roads to new subdivisions will have to be paid for by government (higher taxes).
3. Our weather is appealing, but only two basic groups come - workers and retirees. Workers need jobs, schools and housing. But school rankings are in the bottom 10 nationally and will not stimulate migration. Retirees require greater social and medical services, which cost tax dollars.
The money given up to developers by this law should be kept and used for education and real long-term jobs' creation. The construction lobby should pay for the roads. Maybe the government then would do more for the taxpayer than for special interests.
