WESLEY CHAPEL - Got drugs? Don't need or want them anymore? Then the Pasco County Sheriff's Office will take them off your hands.
Deputies will collect expired and otherwise unused medication from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Hess gas station at 28232 State Road 54, at Bruce B. Downs Boulevard.
Residents can drop off old medication, pills, liquids and needles without even getting out of their vehicles. No personal information will be collected at the drop site.
The idea is to provide a way residents can safely dispose of their medication without creating a safety or environmental hazard. Pills should never be flushed or thrown away in the trash, sheriff's officials say.
Each year, the sheriff's office holds a number of these pill drops at locations across the county, collecting hundreds of pounds of medication during the events. The pills and other items collected are then properly destroyed by the sheriff's office.
