NEW PORT RICHEY - Evidently, Jerry Lee Robinson couldn't bear to watch his vehicles being repossessed - or so say Pasco deputies.
So he ran out of his Seven Springs home, hopped into the running tow truck as workers were trying to load his 2008 BMW, and drove away with his 1996 Nissan van already in tow, according to a Pasco County Sheriff's Office report.
Deputies say they found the van still attached to the tow truck a few blocks away from Robinson's home. A few minutes later, Robinson, 49, of 7945 Putnam Circle, was walking east on Putnam Circle from Mexicali Street. Witnesses told deputies he was the man who stole the tow truck, the report said. As Robinson approached, he yelled at the employees of Seven-X Enterprises about repossessing his van.
He said he was current with payments on both vehicles.
Robinson denied stealing the tow truck, according to arrest reports. He said he saw it with his van attached a few blocks away from his home but that he hadn't taken it.
Robinson was being held Thursday at the Land O' Lakes Jail on a grand theft auto charge. Bail was set at $5,000.
