TAMPA - Here are highlights from recent projections on how the Hillsborough County economy might fare after a Category 3 hurricane. A Category 3 storm, which is considered major, has winds of 111 mph to 130 mph. Hurricane Jeanne, which hit southeast Florida in September 2004, was a Category 3.
$18.8 billion: Estimated property damage
151,000: Estimated job losses immediately afterward
2,000 to 43,000: Net increase in jobs after one year resulting from reconstruction and government spending, depending on pace of recovery
$9 billion: Estimated decrease in gross regional product, factoring out government spending and reconstruction
$6 billion: Estimated boost to gross regional product in the first year from government spending and reconstruction
