Tampa Bay Tech's No. 1 football recruit, rising senior fullback Maurice Hagens, has made a verbal commitment to the University of Miami, Titans coach C.C. Culpepper said Friday.
"He and his family went down to Miami and they met with some of the University's big names, including the head of engineering department," Culpepper said. "The great thing about Mo is that he has a great, supportive family and they made sure Miami was going to give him the education he wants first."
Hagens plans on majoring in engineering and several of the schools he was considering, including Purdue, are known for their engineering programs.
On the football field, the bruising 6-foot-1, 225-pound Hagens has led TBT in rushing the past two seasons, gaining 1,362 yards as a sophomore and 1,019 last fall. He's also tallied 23 touchdowns in that period, making him the team's leading scorer each year.
Hagens also had offers from Arkansas, Notre Dame, Iowa, Kansas, Connecticut, Wake Forest, Clemson, Louisiana State, Tennessee, South Carolina, Iowa and Purdue.
