Fifty-nine years later

Published: June 13, 2009

After reading the story of James von Brunn, I was sickened. I knew racism and bigotry still existed, but didn't know it existed on such a huge scale.

I'm a 67-year-old man of the Jewish faith. I've experienced my share of anti-Semitism. At the tender age of 8, I was called "Kike"and "Jew Boy." My wise parents told me, "Ignore these people; they are fools." Little did I know that 59 years later, they would still be around.

My heart goes out to the family of Officer Stephen Johns, cut down in the line of duty. May God be merciful on your family and comfort you in your grieving process.
