Morris alters Bucs' minicamp schedule to avoid rain

TAMPA - The threat of foul weather has already cost the Bucs one workout this week. Coach Raheem Morris isn't about to let it take another one from him.

Determined to get at least two workouts in during today's session, Morris has altered his team's workout schedule in a way that he hopes will allow the Bucs to get all their on-field work done before the seasonal afternoon rains come.

The alteration will have the Bucs hitting the field for the first time today at 8:15 a.m. and working until 10:20 a.m. After a break for "brunch,'' Morris said, the Bucs will return to the field at 12:20 p.m. and work until 2:10 p.m.

The change was forced by the combination of the threat of foul weather and the fact the Bucs still don't have an indoor practice facility at their headquarters at One Buc Place.

There are no plans to have such a facility built for the coming training camp at One Buc Place, so the schedule Morris is adopting for today could be something he returns to once camp opens in August.

"It's another learning curve for the new coach,'' Morris said. "This will give us an opportunity to be out there and have more live practices, and it's really just a different way of going about it.''

Morris said Tuesday that his original plan for this week's minicamp was to hold four "fundamental'' workouts, one each for the four losses the Bucs suffered at the end of the 2008 season.

"We want to hit the core beliefs, and why do we want to hit that? Because now the guys can lock into the fundamental techniques, the thigns that down the stretch are going to help us finish strong,'' Morris said.

"The thing that slipped last year at the end was our fundamental core beliefs - the tackling, the blocking, the running, ball awareness. Everything slipped in the end.

"Now we have an opportunity get those things down and that's why I'm excited about the three fundamental practices that [we hope to get in this week during our minicamp.''

Today's workouts remain closed to the general public, but TBO.com will provide updates throughout the day on all that is happening at One Buc Place and with the Bucs.
