Today turned out to be an awful day for a breakdown at AT&T wireless.
The same day hordes of Apple iPhone customers went to upgrade their phone operating system with new features – the high-speed wireless network at AT&T broke down across West Florida.
As of Thursday morning, AT&T technicians were working on the problem, and it seemed to come and go in different areas at different times, according to iPhone users. By about 1:30 p.m., the system seemed to be back in operation.
AT&T's voice and slower "EDGE" data links were still working, and "Our teams are aggressively working to restore service and we hope to have more information soon," AT&T officials said in a statement.
The fix is especially important for AT&T this week.
Friday morning at 9 a.m., Apple and AT&T plan to start selling its new and improved iPhone 3GS, which comes with faster speeds, better battery life and other upgrades.
