A man walked into the Washington Mutual Bank at 2615 State Road 60 around 3 p.m. yesterday and presented a teller with a note demanding money.
The teller would not comply, so he demanded the teller's money.
He didn't get that, either.
After the second rebuff, the man left the bank, got on a silver mountain bike and pedaled away, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's office.
Detectives canvassed the area and developed a possible name of the would-be robber.
Witnesses and the teller identified the suspect in a photograph.
Robert Nelson Thomas, 38, of 317 St. Cloud Avenue, Valrico, was arrested at his home around 7 p.m. yesterday on charges of attempted bank robbery and attempted strong armed robbery. He is being held at the Orient Road Jail on $7,500 bond.
