Thursday turned out to be an awful day for a breakdown at AT&T wireless.
The high-speed wireless network at AT&T broke down across several west Florida counties early Thursday morning, just as hordes of Apple iPhone customers went to upgrade their phone operating system with new features.
As of Thursday morning, AT&T technicians were working on the problem, and it seemed to come and go in different areas at different times, according to iPhone users. By about 1:30 p.m., the system seemed to be back in operation.
AT&T's voice network and slower "EDGE" data links kept working during the outage. The breakdown and fix came at an especially important time for AT&T.
Today at 7 a.m., Apple and AT&T plan to start selling the new and improved iPhone 3GS, which comes with faster speeds, better battery life and other upgrades.
