Thrifty car rental earns its name

TAMPA - Thrifty car rental is offering a $1 daily base rate for one-way rentals from Tampa International Airport to eight Northeast and Midwest airports through June 25 as it repositions its fleet.

The deal, available only at thrifty .com or by calling 1-800-847-4389, adds five fees and taxes to the base rate.

Those would raise the cost of a three-day rental of a Chrysler Sebring or similar car going from Tampa's airport on Sunday to Chicago O'Hare International Airport on Tuesday to $13.32.

By way of comparison, daily Thrifty rates from Tampa to Chicago range from $42.25 for an economy car to $86.42 for a van.

Other airports doing the drop-off are Chicago's Midway Airport and airports in Cincinnati, Columbus and Dayton, Ohio; Kansas City, Mo.; Louisville, Ky.; and Philadelphia.

Cars can be rented for a maximum of seven days.

Similar deals are being offered from airports in Fort Lauderdale, Fort Myers, Miami, Orlando and West Palm Beach.

Thrifty also is offering one-way deals in Croatia and Serbia.
