Although the fall is yet to arrive, five Land O' Lakes High cross country runners finished in the top three spots in their age group in last week's Rap River Run 5K.
Matt Schwartz, who finished with a time of 17:32, was crowned the overall male champion of the June 13 event, while teammate Jake Morken was second overall with an 18:06.
On the previous day during the Brooksville Tri-5K at McKethan Lake, Renea Porsch was the first overall female winner with a time of 21:07. Teammate Morgan Keppel was second overall with a time of 21:38. Two other Land O' Lakes runners - Ana Duque (26:23) and Dylan Hutson (28:49) - also completed the 5K course.
The team's next event will be July 11 at the Citrus Summer Showdown 5K in Inverness. The Gators will then head to Berry College, Ga., for the Warrior Running Camp at Berry College. Seventeen runners will experience the 26,000-acre campus at Berry College. It is considered one of the largest college campuses in the world and features more than 40 miles of trails.

Hendrix Lafontant (18:35, third in age group); Chris Dotson (19:50, 15th overall); Nick Czupryn (19:53, 17th); Dillon Oergel (22:10, second in age group); Tyler MacDonald (22:30); Alea Bosulto (23:15, third in age group); Aaron O' Brien (24:58); Brooke Gonzalez (25:06); Leah Stanton (25:15).
