SEBRING - A Sebring man reported himself to law enforcement after allegedly getting drunk and assaulting his 69-year-old girlfriend.
Erwin B. Acosta, 48, of Sebring, was arrested Friday and charged with assault on a person 65 years of age or older, battery on a person 65 years of age or older and violation of probation.
Authorities say Acosta called central dispatch at 5:45 p.m. Friday and said he wanted a sheriff's deputy to come and take him to jail. Dispatchers verified that he was on probation and would be in violation if he was drinking alcohol, according to the arrest report.
Highlands County Sheriff's Deputy John Fiorito said he could smell alcohol on Acosta's breath when he arrived at the home. The suspect's girlfriend told Fiorito he had been drinking all day and threatened to punch her if she tried to throw his beer out.
"She was scared to death (of) what Erwin might do to her," the report stated.
The victim said Acosta did push her and throw her out of the way when she went into the kitchen and tried to get rid of the beer. She told authorities she did not need medical attention and refused an ambulance.
Fiorito made the arrest.
