One day about two decades ago, there appeared in the Tribune a report that the New York Yankees' lease on spring training facilities in Fort Lauderdale had expired, and there were some difficulties in arranging a renewal.
I called Phyllis Busansky, then a member of the Hillsborough County Commission, and urged her to phone George Steinbrenner, whom we then knew but slightly, to see if he would be interested in moving the training facilities to Tampa, where he lived.
George said yes. Phyllis then notified Fred Karl, then county administrator, and other members of the board.
Because of the work of Phyllis and Fred Karl, we now have George M. Steinbrenner Field, which is a treasure.
So was Phyllis Busansky.
