A Nevada oddsmaker apparently doesn't think much of Buccaneers cornerback Ronde Barber's golf game.
Scheduled to compete in a celebrity golf tournament in Lake Tahoe next month, Barber is given 100-1 odds of winning the American Century Championship by Harrah's Lake Tahoe Sportsbook.
The event is set for July 17 to 19 at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course, with defending champion Rick Rhoden a 9-5 favorite. The field also includes a number of esteemed retired athletes: John Elway, former champion Mario Lemieux, Mike Schmidt, Lawrence Taylor, Dan Marino and Michael Jordan.
Barber, a serious amateur golfer, also has competed in the Outback Pro Am, a Champions Tour celebrity event played at TPC Tampa Bay.
Among the talented field expected at Tahoe, Barber can hope to at least post a higher finish than former basketball star and current television mouthpiece Charles Barkley, whose odds of winning are 499-1.
With a first prize of $125,000 and live, network television coverage, the event is golf's most prestigious celebrity tournament. The 54-hole event is for celebrities with a United States Golf Association handicap of 10 or less.
The first round will be shown on ESPN2 (tape delay from 7 to 9 p.m.) on July 17. The second and third rounds will air live on NBC from 3 to 6 p.m. on July 18 and 19.
