Pinellas fire rescue departments offer water safety lessons

For many, the Fourth of July means boating, swimming and spending time near the water. Without practicing water safety techniques, an idyllic outing can quickly turn into a tragedy.
Clearwater, Safety Harbor and St. Petersburg fire and rescue departments are teaming up to remind people to stay safe. The event takes place July 2 at the Clearwater Sailing Center and will feature live demonstrations including water rescue operations and scuba gear fitting.
Activities start at 10 a.m. The sailing center is at 1001 Gulf Blvd., Clearwater.
