TAMPA - A joint effort between three local law enforcement agencies to crackdown on crime netted 159 arrests over the weekend.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, the police departments of Tampa and Temple Terrace completed Operation Summer Heat at 4 a.m. on Sunday. The arrests included 44 felony charges and 115 misdemeanors, said sheriff's office spokesman Deputy Larry McKinnon.
Notable cases include the arrests of a man accused of stabbing another and suspects charged in a home invasion and an unrelated armed robbery, McKinnon said.
Temple Terrace police arrested a military deserter and a convicted felon who had a handgun. Information was gathered on stolen vehicles by Tampa police officers and firearms and drugs were seized in several arrests, McKinnon said.
Operation Summer Heat began on Friday night.
