TAMPA - Former Hillsborough High baseball player Keith Diaz, who recently graduated from Central Florida Community College, was named the Florida Community College Activities Association Male Scholar Athlete of the Year.

Diaz, who was previously named Central Florida Community College's Male Academic Scholar Athlete of the Year, maintained a 4.0 GPA while studying engineering.

A pitcher for CFCC's baseball team, Diaz went 4-1 with a 5.91 ERA in 18 appearances (five starts) in 2009, striking out 31 in 531/3 innings pitched.

He also was heavily involved in community service, serving meals at the Salvation Army, volunteering at local youth baseball leagues and participating in the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Light the Night Walk.

Diaz, a 2007 Hillsborough grad, will continue his education at the University of Central Florida, where he will enter the college's engineering program. He also will attempt to walk on to UCF's baseball team.
