A local high school couple who made their prom outfits out of duct tape are among the 10 finalists in a national scholarship competition.
Amie Gerodimos, 16, and Tresson Canley, 17, wore the sticky duds to the St. Petersburg Collegiate High School prom. If they win the Stuck at Prom Scholarship Contest, they'll each receive a $3,000 scholarship, and the high school will get $3,000, according to a news release.
Voting in the contest, sponsored by Duck Tape brand duct tape, is open to the public at www.stuckatprom.com. Gerodimos and Canley are entry No. 232.
More than 215 couples from across the United States entered the contest. A panel of judges narrowed the field to 10 based on originality, workmanship, use of color and accessories, and the amount of duct tape used in the outfit.
The second- and third-place winners will receive scholarship packages of $2,000 and $1,000, respectively.
Voting ends July 2. The winners will be announced about a week later.
