Former Lakewood Ranch standout Lastings Milledge was acquired by the Pirates along with reliever Joel Hanrahan from the Nationals for Nyjer Morgan and former first-round draft pick Sean Burnett.
Once considered a top prospect in the New York Mets organization, Milledge, hit .167 in seven games before being sent to the minors. He is expected to join the Pirate's Triple-A affiliate in Indianapolis.
Milledge, 24, has 25 homers in 897 career at-bats, but has been set back by a broken right hand and finger, sore foot and groin strain. He hit .268 with 14 homers, 61 RBIs and 24 doubles in 138 games last season.
