A 28-year-old man died this afternoon after his car collided head-on with another vehicle on U.S. 41 in Pasco County, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
James Overton Alston IV of Lutz died at the scene, troopers say. The driver of the other vehicle, Pamela Allen, 32, of Land O' Lakes, had minor injuries.
The highway patrol gives this account of what happened at 2:50 p.m. on U.S. 41 and McCarthy Drive, about two miles south of State Road 52:
Alston was driving a 1987 Cadillac north and Allen was driving a 2007 Nissan south. The Cadillac went into the southbound lane and into the path of Allen's vehicle. Allen tried swerving to avoid the collision, but the Cadillac struck the front of the Nissan.
The investigation is ongoing.
Anyone with information on the crash can call Trooper J.M. Hollis or Cpl. Kenneth Ratcliff at (727) 841-4181.
