Ex-Hillsborough minister gets prison for molestation

DADE CITY - A former Hillsborough County minister accused of molesting a 12-year-old girl in 2005 has been sentenced to seven years in prison.

Daniel Gomez, 39, former pastor of the Center of Unction Church of the Nazarene in Brandon, pleaded no contest to lewd and lascivious molestation.

Pasco County sheriff's investigators said Gomez went to the girl's home when her parents weren't there and kissed her and touched her in a sexual manner before attempting to have sex with her.

The girl reported the incident in November 2007.

Gomez faces three similar charges in Hillsborough involving the girl. Those charges are pending and involve encounters at Gomez's house from April through November 2005, authorities said.
