It happens again and again. A child disappears from a bedroom at night, and another name joins those of Sabrina, Amber, Jessica, Polly, Caylee and many others.
Heart-breaking pictures of distraught families and friends. Terse reports from lawmen. And massive searches by caring volunteers. All appear on every television station.
Parents of victims work to create new laws in hopes of recovering abducted children before they come to harm. Isn't it time to place more emphasis on prevention? So many times we hear that doors, windows and garages were left open or unlocked, and children are left in the care of boyfriends or girlfriends with a history of child abuse or violence.
Surely, some abductions could be prevented by securing homes with deadbolts and window locks, placing children in monitored bedrooms in close proximity to parents, and installing a home alarm system.
Meanwhile, we all pray.
