TAMPA - Hillsborough County will open shelters tonight for the homeless and those in homes without adequate heat.
The National Weather Service has issued a wind chill advisory for West Central Florida from 3 to 8 a.m. Monday.
Forecasts call for the combination of wind and low temperatures to make it feel like 31 degrees Monday morning.
The shelters are:
Salvation Army, 1514 N. Florida Ave. for adults only, (813) 221-4440.
Metropolitan Ministries, 2010 N. Florida Ave. for families, (813) 209-1077.
Good Samaritan Mission (South County) at Bethune Park, 5809 Edina St. in Wimauma for adults and families, (813) 671-7618.
The Salvation Army and Metropolitan Ministries locations will open at 4 p.m.
The Bethune Park location will open at 6 p.m. Shelters will stay open until 8 a.m. tomorrow morning, and meals will be provided.
Hillsborough County's Health & Social Services Department works with these organizations to help provide freeze shelters when temperatures reach below 32 degrees, including the wind chill.
