It's a phrase flying liberally from the mouths of nightly news broadcasters and politicians alike: We're in the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression.
Unprecedented numbers of homes languish in foreclosure. Millions of people clog the unemployment lines. Loans are tougher to come by. Yet, in the midst of economic turmoil, people find ways to survive - and even thrive. Three Tampa-area residents are finding their own paths: One is going back to school to land a job in a growing industry, another created his own job after being laid off suddenly last year and a third used his professional contacts to start a new business. Their stories may inspire an idea for others hoping for stability in tough times.
