The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating two fatal Monday night crashes in Pinellas and Hernando counties.
A 23-year-old St. Petersburg man was killed Monday night when he lost control of his 1993 Mitsubishi 2-door coupe on the exit ramp to I-375 and the vehicle went over a concrete barrier, plummeting 45 feet and landing in a city maintenance yard, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
Leonardo A. Llana was thrown from the car and died at the scene of the 8:35 p.m. wreck, the patrol said.
Llana was southbound on I-275 before driving onto the exit ramp to I-375, the patrol said.
At 8:05 p.m. in Hernando County, a 2003 Ford pickup truck traveling southbound on Shoal Line Boulevard about 1.5 miles north of Petit Lane Lane in Spring Hill went off the west side of the road, corrected and crossed into the northbound lane, overcorrected and drove across the southbound lane, striking a street sign and a tree before overturning into the water, the patrol said.
The driver of the truck, James P. Ramirez, 40, of Spring Hill, died at the scene, troopers say.
There were no passengers in the truck.
