Seminoles Win, Earn Share Of ACC Women's Crown

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Jacinta Monroe had 21 points and 10 rebounds, and Florida State earned a share of its first Atlantic Coast Conference title with a 58-47 win over Wake Forest on Sunday.

Tanae Davis-Cain had 11 points for the Seminoles (24-6, 12-2), who tied with No. 5 Maryland for the league title after being picked to finish fifth in a preseason media poll. But because they lost to Maryland 72-71 on Feb. 2, Florida State will be seeded second to the Terps in the conference tournament.

Brooke Thomas scored 13 points for the Demon Deacons (18-10, 5-9), who closed out the regular season with four consecutive losses.

Wake Forest led early, going up 7-5 on Camille Collier's 3-pointer with 14:45 left in the first half. But Florida State responded with a 12-4 run to pull ahead 17-11 on Monroe's jumper with 8:23 left.

The Seminoles never trailed again.

Georgia's Run Shocks Florida

ATHENS, Ga. - Porsha Phillips scored 20 points off the bench to lead Georgia (17-12, 7-7 SEC) to an 84-75 win over No. 17 Florida (23-6, 9-5) in the regular-season finale for both teams.

Georgia got 14 points apiece from Ashley Houts and Christy Marshall. Danielle Taylor started in place of Phillips and scored all 12 of her points in the first half to pace the Lady Bulldogs to a 45-38 halftime lead.

Marshae Dotson scored 22 points to lead Florida. Steffi Sorensen added 15 points for Florida, which reclaimed the lead early in the second half with aggressive defense.

But a 14-0 run by Georgia pushed the Lady Bulldogs ahead 68-59, capped by an acrobatic putback by Jaleesa Rhoden.

CORAL GABLES - Marissa Coleman scored 17 points and grabbed 16 rebounds, Marah Strickland also scored 17 and Maryland enhanced its chance of claiming a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament by beating Miami to clinch its first ACC crown since 1989.

Kristi Toliver scored 11, while Lynetta Kizer and Anjale Barrett each added 10 for Maryland (25-4, 12-2), which took command with a 16-3 run over a 4:49 stretch of the first half and closed the regular season on a nine-game winning streak.

Riquna Williams scored 17 points and Lamese James added 16 for Miami (13-16, 2-12). Epiphany Woodson scored 10 for the Hurricanes, who were outrebounded 52-35.

NO. 3 STANFORD 85, USC 74

LOS ANGELES - Kayla Pedersen had 20 points and 10 rebounds to lead Stanford (24-4, 14-1) past Southern Cal (14-13, 8-8) and into sole possession of first place in the Pac-10.

UCLA 71, NO. 4 CALIFORNIA 56

LOS ANGELES - Erica Tukiainen scored a 18 of her career-high 25 points in the second half, and UCLA (17-10, 8-8 Pac-10) upset California (23-4, 14-2).

The win was the biggest against a ranked opponent for the Bruins since Jan. 7, 2008, when the team beat No. 2 Stanford.

AUBURN, Ala. - DeWanna Bonner scored 25 points and Auburn (27-2, 12-2 SEC) clinched its first SEC title in 20 years with a win over Arkansas (17-12, 6-8).

DURHAM, N.C. - Jasmine Thomas scored 19 points and Abby Waner hit the go-ahead 3-pointer with 45.8 seconds remaining in overtime to lead Duke (24-4, 11-3 ACC) past North Carolina (25-5, 10-4).

MANHATTAN, Kan. - Sydney Carter scored 17 points to lead Texas A&M (22-5, 10-4 Big 12) to victory over Kansas State (21-6, 8-6).

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Star Allen scored 25 points and Jantel Lavender added 28 points and 12 rebounds to power Ohio State (24-5, 15-3 Big Ten) past Penn State (11-17, 6-12).

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Shekinna Stricklen scored 18 points, and Tennessee (20-9, 9-5 SEC) beat Vanderbilt (21-8, 10-4) for its 34th consecutive season of 20 or more victories.

NO. 22 VIRGINIA 66

ATLANTA - Iasia Hemingway scored 17 points and Alex Montgomery had 16 as Georgia Tech (21-8, 8-6 ACC) defeated Virginia (22-8, 8-6).

TAMPA: The No. 2 seed Spartans will host Lynn in the quarterfinals of the Sunshine State Conference tournament at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Tampa lost at home to Lynn 67-63 earlier this season, while the Spartans won 64-44 in the regular-season finale.
