FORT MYERS - Johnny Gomes hit a grand slam, and Jay Bruce and Edwin Encarnacion added two-run homers to lead the Cincinnati Reds over the Boston Red Sox 9-8 Tuesday.
Boston starter Jon Lester pitched two perfect innings. Ramon Ramirez took the loss after allowing four runs in the fourth. The Reds other five runs came in the seventh off Wes Littleton.
Paul McAnulty and Mark Wagner hit two-run homers for Boston, and Chris Carter hit a solo drive.
Micah Owings allowed two runs in 3 2-3 innings for the win. He's competing for the fifth spot in Cincinnati's rotation.
