TIPS FOR STATE FARM CUSTOMERS
>>> GET INFORMED. Florida's Office of Insurance Regulation and State Farm Florida have posted special sections on their Web sites to help homeowners whose policies will be canceled over the next three years. The state site, www.floir.com/statefarmdocs.aspx, provides policyholders key information, including a timeline for the cancellation of policies, resources for obtaining alternative coverage, a list of the state's top home insurers, and several documents and statistics related to State Farm's plan to pull out of Florida. Similar information can be found at www.statefarm.com/florida.
>>> START SHOPPING AROUND. Find out which companies are writing policies in your county and compare their rates at Florida's Shop and Compare Rates Web site, www.shopandcomparerates.com. The Florida Market Assistance Plan Web site, www.fmap.org, is another useful resource that matches customers with licensed agents and insurers that are writing new policies.
>>> LOOK AT RATINGS. A.M. Best (www.ambest.com) and Demotech ( www.demotech.com) are the two major rating agencies for the insurance industry. Your insurance agent can provide you with ratings for other insurers. Some mortgage companies may require you to obtain coverage from an "A"-rated company.
