BRANDON - One big inning Tuesday night was enough to keep Brandon undefeated.
The Eagles sent 14 batters to the plate in the first, scored 10 runs and held on for a 10-7 victory against Armwood in a Class 5A-District 8 matchup.
Michael Smith got things going with a leadoff home run, and the Eagles took advantage of five walks with some timely hits, the biggest coming from Matt Bennett (three-run double) and Spencer Dewey (two-run double). It helped Brandon (5-0) erase an early three-run deficit.
"One thing kind of led to another, and we took advantage," Brandon coach Matt Stallbaumer said.
Zack Powers gave Armwood (5-1) a chance with five hitless innings of relief, and Kristian Calibuso (3-for-4, four RBIs) added a couple of big hits to help the Hawks claw their way back into the game, but the big early deficit was too much to overcome.
