TAMPA - When a man walking through Tampa Housing Authority property saw uniformed officers nearby Monday night, he ran off and tried hiding by illegally entering the home of a person he didn't know, police say.
Officers later determined the man, Jonathan Lee Stealey, had an active arrest warrant for violating probation of resisting arrest with violence.
Stealey, 22, was arrested at 1337 1/2 W. Union St. at 11:26 p.m. Wednesday. He initially told police his name was Christopher Jenkins, according to a police report.
During the arrest, Stealey bit an officer's left thumb, causing a minor injury, police say.
Stealey, of 9304 N. Elmer St., was charged with battery of a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest with violence, resisting arrest without violence and giving a false name to law enforcement and burglary. He also was charged with violating probation.
He remained in Orient Road Jail today. No bail has been set.
