More than $135 million is set aside for Florida agencies as part of a White House initiative to enhance state and local law enforcement.
President Obama announced today that $2 billion from the ongoing Recovery Act is designated for law enforcement.
The Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant program, known as JAG, supports: hiring law enforcement officers; multijurisdictional drug and gang task forces; crime prevention and domestic violence programs; and courts, corrections, treatment and justice information-sharing initiatives.
"These funds are a vital component in our effort to not just revive our economy, but to build a new foundation for lasting prosperity and security," President Obama told class of police recruits in Columbus, Ohio.
