Tampa firefighters were running up the stairs Thursday at the 42-story Bank of America Plaza, but not to fight fires.
They were training for the fourth annual Climb Tampa on March 21.
The race, professionally timed for those wanting to climb to the roof, is designed to raise money for the American Lung Association. The preregistration fee is $25, plus a minimum $100 fundraising commitment. Walkup registration is $150.
As of Thursday, 700 climbers had registered and raised $87,000, according to a news release. The association hopes to raise $130,000 this year.
Registered climbers can use Bank of America Plaza to train from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays and 8 to 11 a.m. Saturdays. Registration closes March 18.
