GO FISHING is a look at the area fishing scene through the eyes of local charter boat captains and fishing guides. Today: Rick Grassett.

Anglers fishing with me on the Snook Fin-Addict, out of CB's Saltwater Outfitters on Siesta Key, continue to have good action on deep grass flats of Sarasota Bay and in the Intracoastal Waterway (ICW) at night.

Action slowed a little following the last front, but we still caught lots of trout to 18 inches on CAL jigs with shad tails and had shots at reds in skinny water. We fished deep grass flats near Long Bar and on the west side of Sarasota Bay near Buttonwood Harbor for trout and near Long Bar in skinny water for reds.

A night trip in the ICW near Venice earlier in the week produced about a dozen snook to 24 inches, ladyfish and a 4-pound trout on my Grassett's Snook Minnow fly fished on intermediate and intermediate sink tip fly lines.

Captain Jim Klopfer, of Adventure Charters, reported fast action in Little Sarasota Bay from Stickney Point to Blackburn Point with trout to 18 inches, ladyfish and a few pompano to 3 pounds on quarter-ounce Cotee jigs with gold and rootbeer grubs. His clients fished the ICW channel edges near old Midnight Pass when the tide was low and higher on the flats as the tide rises.

They also had good action in Sarasota's Big Pass with bluefish, whiting, pompano and ladyfish on the same jigs they fished Little Sarasota Bay with. Captain Bruce Burkhart reported catching reds, flounder, black drum and sheepshead while fishing docks with live shrimp in Little Sarasota Bay.
