Driver Seriously Hurt In S.R. 54 Crash

WESLEY CHAPEL - An 18-year-old Wesley Chapel man was critically injured Saturday when he lost control of his car and struck a utility pole and two trees.
Authorities said Cesar Antonio Martinez was trying to merge onto eastbound State Road 54 west of Wesley Brook Drive at 1:41 p.m. when he lost control of his 2000 Volkswagen.
Investigators said the vehicle began to rotate clockwise and the front struck a utility pole. The vehicle continued spinning and hit a tree with its left side before turning onto its roof. It came to a rest when it hit another tree.
Martinez was transported to Tampa General Hospital. The crash remains under investigation.
