SARASOTA - Spruce up your running shoes and prepare to hit the beach for the 23rd annual Run for the Turtles.
Registration for the event is now open online.
The 1-mile fun run and the 5K race will be April 4 on the Siesta Key public beach and will benefit Mote Marine Laboratory's Sea Turtle Conservation and Research Program. The program coordinates monitoring efforts on 35 miles of Sarasota County shoreline during sea turtle nesting season.
The benefit races typically draw participants from across the Tampa Bay region.
The fun run begins at 7:30 a.m., and the 5K run, sanctioned by the Manasota Track Club, begins at 8 a.m. Both events will be on the beach.
Race day registration begins at 6:30 a.m. at the Siesta Key Gazebo. Pre-registration is open at www.active.com until March 21.
The race entry fee for adults is $20 through March 21, $25 after that. The entry fee for children 10 and younger is $10 through March 21, $15 after that.
All entrants will get a T-shirt, food and drinks. There will be door prizes and entertainment after the races.
