Tiger Will Play Doral

Published: March 7, 2009

MIAMI - Tiger Woods has entered the CA Championship at Doral next week, resuming his return from knee surgery on a Blue Monster course where he has won three times.

Woods played his first tournament in eight months last week at the Accenture Match Play Championship, where he was eliminated in the second round by Tim Clark of South Africa.

This will be Woods' first stroke-play event since winning the U.S. Open in a playoff in June.

For the second straight World Golf Championship, every eligible player has entered the tournament. The 77-man field at Doral was determined by the top 50 in the world rankings and top players from money lists around the world. Players still can qualify after this week if they move into the top 10 in the FedEx Cup standings on the PGA Tour or The Race to Dubai in Europe, or if they are in the top 50 in the world rankings published Monday.

Geoff Ogilvy, the Match Play champion for the second time in four years, is the defending champion at Doral. Ogilvy won last year by one shot against Retief Goosen, Jim Furyk and Vijay Singh, with Woods another shot behind.

Woods has not finished out of the top 10 in his six appearances at Doral. He won three straight years (2005-07), the last victory when it became a World Golf Championship.

"Tiger returning to the CA Championship for his first stroke-play event since getting injured is absolutely huge for the South Florida community," tournament director Eddie Carbone said.

PGA: Y.E. Yang shot a bogey-free round of 5-under 65, moving to 7 under through two rounds of the Honda Classic at PGA National in Palm Beach Gardens. The South Korean is one shot ahead of Will MacKenzie (67), Jeff Overton (67) and Robert Allenby (68).

Of the top 12 players on the leaderboard, only MacKenzie has a PGA Tour win since 2006.

Ben Crane, winless since 2005, shot a 5-under 65 on his 33rd birthday to get to 5 under, two shots off Yang's pace. David Mathis (68) was alone at 4 under, and six others were at 3 under, including Greg Chalmers (who shot 64, Friday's best round) and Harrison Frazar (65).

LPGA: Americans Paula Creamer and Jane Park shot 1-under 71s to share the second-round lead in the HSBC Women's Champions in Singapore.

The third-ranked Creamer, coming off a third-place finish last week in Thailand, matched Park at 6-under 138 on the Tanah Merah Country Club's Garden Course.

Katherine Hull (69) and Mi Hyun Kim (68) are at 5 under. Top-ranked Lorena Ochoa, the defending champion coming off her 25th LPGA Tour victory last week in Thailand, was 2 under after a 73.

CHAMPIONS: Defending champion Bernhard Langer shot a 6-under 65 to take a one-stroke lead after the first round of the Toshiba Classic in Newport Beach, Calif.

Langer, a two-time Masters winner, was one stroke ahead of Jim Colbert, Bob Gilder and Eduardo Romero.

Mark O'Meara and Denis Watson were two shots off the lead.

"I played really well," said Langer, who was 1 under through 11 holes and then played the next seven in 5 under.
