"Coffee Love," by Daniel Young (Wiley, $17.95)
Yes, the title of the book sounds like the name of a Barry White album. Notwithstanding, this book gives java fans a cup of loving text to warm their hands over. In addition to taking readers on a journey from Ethiopia (home of coffee) to Seattle (home of the Coffee Revolution), Young offers tips on selecting coffee beans as well as storing them, grinding and, of course, brewing. The 50 recipes for coffee drinks are nifty, too. Can't wait to try the Thai iced coffee.
"The Wheat-Free Cook," by Jacqueline Mallorca (William Morrow, $18.99)
Celiac disease sufferers can rejoice. Instead of a cookbook with food that looks like it came from a prison cell, Mallorca has devised a buffet of dishes that would be welcome at any table, wheat-free or otherwise. Goat cheese pizza with rice-flour crust? Braised short ribs with sun-dried tomatoes? Chocolate eclairs? They're enough to make wheat-eaters envious. Almost.
"Weber's Way To Grill," by Jamie Purviance (Sunset, $24.95)
It's been a month since football season ended. You're out of grilling shape. You need to start spring barbecue training so you don't pull a muscle when you fire up the outdoor kitchen. A little refresher course, courtesy of the folks at Weber grills, wouldn't hurt. Describing itself as the "most complete grilling technique book ever" is a bit grating. (See what we did there? Grate? Like on a grill? We kill us.) But darn if it doesn't come close. Even better, the step-by-step photo instructions make the book entirely easy to digest. Comes in handy when you're wondering how to butterfly a leg of lamb. Or not.
