BRADENTON - Manatee County Sheriff's detectives are searching for clues in the 26-year-old unsolved homicide of a woman.
The problem: they can't find her body. The unidentified woman was found washed ashore in 1983 and was buried in an indigent plot at the New Memphis Cemetery. Officials say the exact location of the body in the graveyard isn't clear because of poor record-keeping methods in the early 1980s.
Investigators spent Thursday and Friday searching for the body in hopes of extracting DNA from bone fragments; they may have to use ground penetrating radar to locate the remains.
