A St. Petersburg man was burned more than 30 per cent of his body while trying to put out a grease fire Sunday night, St. Petersburg Fire & Rescue said.
Firefighters found the man, who has not been identified, at 5443 31st Ave. South at 8:18 p.m.
They say the man tried to run outside with the flaming pot, causing the grease to spill and splatter on the patient.
Paramedics treated the man for first and second degree burns, and a paramedic reported that he was burned on his hands, arms chest and feet.
The victims was airlifted to Tampa General Hospital. His condition has not been released.
Firefighters say the best way to contain a grease fire is to turn off the heat, cover the pot and call 911 for help.
