A motorcyclist managed to avoid an accident and injury Monday afternoon by dropping his bike in the median of Interstate 75 but wasn't so lucky with his Harley Davidson.
Terry Sterett, 32, was heading north on I-75 just past Bruce B. Downs Boulevard about 4:40 p.m. when traffic ahead of him slowed, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
Sterett, of New Port Richey, avoided a collision by dropping the motorcycle in the grassy median. He was not hurt.
But his 1998 Harley Davidson caught fire and ignited the grass, causing an estimated $10,000 in damage to the bike.
No charges were filed and alcohol was not involved, the report said.
