A 41-year-old Tampa man died Sunday evening, within hours after his Dodge Intrepid was struck from behind on 18th Avenue South in St. Petersburg, police said.
John J. Threatts, of 4312 Nassau St., had stopped at the intersection at 22nd Street at about 2:30 p.m., when his Intrepid was rear-ended by a Toyota Camry driven by Michelle D. Walker, 19, of 701 11th Ave. S., St. Petersburg, police said. The Camry then struck a Pontiac Vibe that was also stopped at the intersection, police said.
The driver of the Pontiac, Mary E. Walker, 60, of 1527 16th St. N., St. Petersburg, and a passenger, Jermaine M. Robinson, were taken to Bayfront Medical Center with minor injuries, police said.
Michelle Walker suffered serious injuries but was at the hospital in stable condition, police said.
Threatts was pronounced dead at the hospital at 6:32 p.m.
The wreck does not appear to be alcohol-related, police said. An investigation is under way.
